Most people don’t see the potential in a one-storey brown brick bungalow with cramped rooms and little natural light. But designer Brian McCourt, host of HGTV’s Backyard Builds, did. His design firm took on the job of overhauling the dark and dated post-war bungalow, blowing out the walls and opening up the ceilings to create a light-filled, airy family home with plenty of space and visual drama.
